Mary was born in Hanover, NH sometime in the late 1960s. She was raised in New York City and attended the LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts for Vocal. She always wanted to be an artist but did not feel she had the talent to be successful. Mary met her husband at Montclair State College and graduated with a degree in History. After graduation, Mary worked for a time in both Real Estate and Human Resource Management.
In 2000, Mary’s husband was transferred to Texas. And soon there after, they welcomed their first son. Mary’s journey as a stay at home mom began at this point. She had two sons, ages 4 and 20 months. Mary has always enjoyed painting as well as home decorating but, her passion blossomed once she was at home on a daily basis. Motherhood gave her the opportunity to pursue her passion – one of a kind home décor.
Her favorite style is ‘old world’ mixed with modern elements like animal prints, texture, dimensions, embellishments and clean lines. Mary’s inspiration comes from pretty things and colors. She enjoys embellishing most anything…. Jean jackets, lamp shades, pillows, etc. She has an eye for the unique and attempts to duplicate the ‘look’ for a reasonable price.
Business really took off when Mary moved from Plano to Allen and she had numerous blank walls to fill! Mary stretched her comfort zone and began designing more abstract pieces for her new home. It was not long before neighbors, family and friends began asking Mary to create custom pieces for their homes. Soon thereafter, complete strangers were approaching Mary to create unique wall hangings for their homes as well. And this is how ‘Designs by Mary’ began.
